Billie Spencer, longtime resident of Springfield Missouri and member of First Baptist Church, passed away March 9, 2025, at the age of ninety-eight.
She was born in Fayetteville Arkansas to Ewell M and Hazel Condra Logue on September 2, 1926. She graduated from Fayetteville High School and the University of Arkansas with a bachelor's degree in education. On June 10, 1947, she married Clayton Leigh Spencer, her high school sweetheart, soul mate, and husband of sixty-six years after his service in WWII.
She taught elementary school in Killeen, TX, Clarksville, AR, and Fayetteville, AR, prior to moving to Springfield, MO, when her husband, Clayton became the head Football Coach at Central High School. Billie began her Missouri teaching at the Graff Vocational Technical School. From 1967-1988, she taught Business courses at Glendale High School, before retiring in 1988.
She was preceded in death by: Her husband, Clayton; parents, Ewell and Hazel Logue; sisters Carolyn Haskin, Betty Logue, and daughter-in-law, Debby Spencer. She is survived by her son Steve (Deanna Hovey) of Ozark MO; son Scott (Mary Max) of Niceville FL; Grandchildren Beau Spencer (Gwynne) of Philadelphia PA; Tyler Spencer (Alison) Fulton IL Courtney (Jon) Neill of Niceville FL; and Ryan (Janae) Spencer of Tyler TX; great grandchildren Scottie Neill, Henry Neill, Brooks Neill, Avila Spencer, Cascia Spencer, John-Paul Spencer, Teddy Spencer, Phillip Spencer and Abillyn Jude Spencer; Nephew Robert (Barbara) Spencer of Winnetka IL; Niece Sylvia Orton of Little Rock AR; Niece Karmen (Bob) Shaw of Arkansas City KS; Niece Gwen Simmons of Elmdale KS; Nephew Edward Haskin of Terre Haute,IN; Nephew Jon Haskin of Sikeston MO; Niece Celeste (Larry) Warren of House Springs MO, Nephew Mike (Christine) Haskin of Byrnes Mill MO; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.
She loved her God, family, and friends. We are so grateful for her life and rejoice in her eternal home. Hers was a life well-lived, centered around God and family.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her name to:
First Baptist Church, Springfield MO.
Friends are cordially invited to celebrate Billie's life. Visitation will be at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield, MO, Thursday, March 27th at 9:30 AM, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM. A private graveside burial will be held at Missouri Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
