Obituary

Billie Cox Gray passed away on October 2, 2021, from complications resulting from a fall.  She was 81-years-old.

Born March 22, 1940 in her grandparents' farmhouse in Morriston, AR, Billie was raised along with her two younger brothers in Springfield, MO.  She attended Sunshine Elementary, Jarrett Junior High, spent one year at Central High before transferring to Parkview High School where she graduated in 1958.

Billie lived in several states, including Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and California, before spending more than 20 years in Atlanta, Georgia, and then returning to Springfield in 2008.

Her greatest joy in life came from her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, an avid reader and gardener, and enjoyed cooking and needlework.

She will be missed.

Billie was preceded in death by paternal grandparents John Franklin and Genettie Cox, maternal grandparents Homer and Stella McCullough; father William Edward (Ed) Cox, mother, Lorene Hope Cox, sister-in-law Charlotte Hewitt Cox, and brother Terry Cox of Arlington, TX.

Survivors include beloved husband Richard Gray, brother Larry Cox (Pat) of Rogersville, MO, sister-in-law Phuong Cox of Arlington, TX, sons, Jeffrey Acuff (Rosalina) of Lafayette, CA, Greg Acuff (Kathy) of Irvine, CA and Ryan Acuff (Cassandra) of Austin, TX; step-children, Jennifer Gray Johnson (Rob) of Nashville, TN; Katie Gray Antenucci (Angelo) of Miami, FL and David Gray (Roxane) of Marietta, GA; grandchildren Tyler, Kaela, Catalina, Sophia, Hudson, Eloise, Archer and Cohen; three nieces and four nephews; a few very special cousins, a large extended family, friends, and precious cats, Molly and Gus.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Billie's favorite charity: The Kitchen on 730 N Glenstone, Springfield, MO  65802 .

Services will be held at the Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield on Saturday, October 9 th at 1pm.
