Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Beverly Burwell, who peacefully left this world on August 1st, 2025, at the age of 81. Beverly was born in Springfield, Missouri, on November 21, 1943, and lived a life filled with love, music, hard work, and a deep devotion to her family and community.

A 1961 graduate of Rogersville High School, Beverly's passion for music began early. An accomplished singer, she earned multiple state ratings for her solos and was a valued member of various vocal groups. She often credited her vocal teacher and high school choir director for encouraging her to recognize the immense talent she had. Beverly also enjoyed performing in school plays and was always willing to sing at the weddings of family and friends, a cherished part of her legacy.

After high school, Beverly embarked on a successful career in banking, working as a teller at Citizens Bank. She was instrumental in introducing MasterCard to businesses across the Ozarks, helping to bring credit cards to the community. Beverly later earned a Real Estate Broker's license in the late 1970s and helped countless families find their homes.

In 1980, when her husband, Jerry Burwell, became a partner in Queen City Beer, Beverly joined the company as its accountant. After Jerry sold Queen City Beer in 1985, he and Beverly opened Burr's Restaurant, a beloved neighborhood restaurant and bar known for delicious food and as a place to connect. Beverly's warmth and hospitality left a lasting impact on everyone who came through the restaurant's doors.

Beverly was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Jerry Burwell, her parents, Eunice (Tull) Moffis and Gather Moffis, and her sisters, Mary Veteto and Sandy Parks.

She is survived by her daughter Debbie Letterman, of Springfield, Missouri; stepson Bradley Burwell (Amy), of Springfield, Missouri; stepdaughter Ellen Wood (Carey), of Overland Park, Kansas; granddaughters Lauren Burwell Uhl (Joe) and Emily Burwell Weiss (Andrew); grandsons Andrew Wood and Nick Wood; and great-grandchildren Peter Weiss and Betty Uhl. She is also survived by her siblings Betty Osborne, Jim Moffis, Jerry Moffis, Linda Payne, and David Moffis, along with their families. Beverly's love for her family knew no bounds, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 11, from 12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with graveside service at Hazelwood Cemetery to follow at 2 p.m. The family invites friends and loved ones to join in remembering Beverly, whose legacy of love, music, and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St Croix Hospice of Nixa.
Rest in peace, Beverly. Your voice may be silent, but your love and light will forever echo in the lives you touched.
