IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Beverley
Ehlen
December 21, 1944 – March 24, 2019
Beverley Dolores Dixon Ehlen died at the age of 74 peacefully in her sleep at home, Sunday March 24, 2019.
She is preceded in death by her father Harold Dixon and her mother Isabelle Carriero Dixon. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Ehlen; her daughters, Kirsten Ehlen Poppen and Michelle Ehlen; her stepdaughter, Hallie Ehlen; her son-in-law, Judson Poppen; her sister, Diane Wood; her brother, Harold Dixon Jr.; and her four grandchildren, Cameron Bartlett, Hunter Bartlett, Clara Poppen, and Lydia Poppen.
Originally from Buffalo, New York, Beverley moved with her family at the age of 10 to Southern California where she spent the next 43 years of her life. During that time, she graduated from Cal State Long Beach with a B.A. in Sociology, married her next door neighbor Ken, helped with Ken's veterinary practices, worked as a real estate broker, and lovingly raised their daughters. In 1997, Beverley and Ken moved to Kansas City, Missouri to join their daughter Kirsten. She then spent the last 15 years of her life near Kirsten and her family in Saddlebrooke, Missouri surrounded by the beautiful Ozarks and the love of her local grandchildren, Clara and Lydia.
Beverley was a compassionate, thoughtful person, always thinking of other people and expressing personalized ways to let them know they were special. She loved reading classic literature, being active in her many neighborhood book groups, writing her own material, finding the perfect literary quote, enjoying the changing seasons (especially fall colors and spring flowers!), and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren by being an active part of their daily lives. Throughout her life she volunteered for various organizations, and in recent years, developed a passion for helping people who were wrongly convicted. With a kind heart and deeply empathetic nature, she contributed to make the world a little better every day by giving of herself.
Beverley's laughter and smile were contagious, and her positivity always led the way. She will be incredibly missed by those who were blessed to know her. In her parting words, she wanted her life celebrated, not mourned, and to be remembered as shining and laughing in the stars, forever in the nighttime sky.
A memorial service will take place at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield, Missouri at 11:00 AM on March 30, 2019, and her ashes will be scattered amongst the autumn trees jointly with her husband's when the time comes. The family will also designate a plaque, as she wanted her name somewhere on this earth to mark that she had traveled through this place once upon a time. Flowers and condolences may be sent to Gorman-Scharpf, or guests are invited to donate in her memory to either the American Heart Association in honor of her undiagnosed heart disease or to Faithful Friends Animal Advocates of Neosho, Missouri.
