Betty Susan (Sue) Tharp was born near Pleasant Hope, MO in 1934 and passed away in Springfield, MO February 15, 2024.

She is survived by three children, nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, James Wilson Tharp and her parents, Walter and Frankie Scroggins.

Betty spent most of her early life on a farm near Pleasant Hope, MO. While attending high school. In Pleasant Hope, she met James (Jim) – the love of her life. Betty and Jim were married in June of 1952 in Bolivar, MO. Betty was a homemaker and helpmate as she and Jim had a lifetime career in the wholesale and retail footwear business, which ultimately led to business interests in land, real estate and banking.

Betty was a dedicated Christian who spent a lifetime in the service of others. She taught for many years in Sunday School and loved working with children. She was a member of PEO.

Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Springfield. Burial will follow at 12:00 PM in Pleasant Hope Cemetery.
