Obituary

Betty Martin, 85, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2018 in Springfield. She was born in Memphis, TN on January 11, 1933 to Lester Elizabeth Brigance.

Betty graduated from Senior High School in Springfield, MO in 1951. She worked at Brigance Food Lane and Marler Electric.

She was united in marriage to Max Martin in 1950. She and Max bought the family grocery store, becoming co-owners of Brigance Food Lane until the mid-1980s.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons-in-law Larry Egan, Bruce Kaylor, and Richard Phelan; granddaughter Dusty Lynn Brown and brother-in-law Harry Marler.

She is survived by her son, Tony Martin (Brenda); daughters Marilyn Kaylor and Patty Phelan; grandsons Paul Egan (Bryna) and J.R. Phelan (Kaye); granddaughters Melania Stofer (Justin), Kysha Landry, and Michaela Hoffman (Nate); great grandsons Jaydon and Ezekiel Landry and Jace Phelan; great granddaughters Riley and Avery Stofer and Vanessa Phelan; sisters Peggy Bales (Clyde) and Lynda Tolbert (Roy); nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Betty was a life-long active member of the Springfield Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She loved  the Lord and her church family.

She dearly loved her family and genuinely loved and cared about people.

She will be loved, remembered, and greatly missed.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 6:00 PM at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
