Betty Lois (Nelson) Horn, 82, of Springfield, MO, passed away December 24, 2011 after an extended illness. She was a lifelong Christian. She was born August 12, 1929 in Springfield, MO to Reverend Frank and L. Fayne Nelson. Betty graduated from Southwest Missouri State. She taught high school Home Economics in Mountain View and Fair Grove, MO. She married Robert Horn on July 13, 1953. Betty enjoyed singing and listening to music, cooking for her family, helping to run the family craft and hobby shop in Hutchinson, Kansas, and following the Indianapolis 500 Race. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; and infant son, Robert Ray. Betty is survived by her daughter, Angela Crouch; son, William Horn and wife, Karen; brother, Carl and wife, Vernetta; uncle, Eugene Nelson; granddaughter, Sally Doyle and husband, David; grandsons, Matthew and Daniel; great-grandson, Zane; sister-in-law, Sarah Cassidy; many nieces and nephews; and other extended family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011 in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel, 1947 E. Seminole, Springfield, MO. Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
