Ethel E. (Betty) Hickory, 80, of Springfield, MO, passed away at 9:25 pm on October 10, 2014, at Manor Care. Our beloved mother, sister, and Nana went home to Jesus. She was full of life and was very creative in writing both stories and songs. She's had several published articles in "Springfield Magazine" and the "Singles Magazine" published by the Southern Baptists. As a LPN, she specialized in Geriatrics and has prayed with and for many patients, leading some to salvation. She will be missed here, but like the words to one of her songs, "Travel On." She is in "a far better place" She was a member of Ozarks Noteworthy Songwriters and was its founder. She had also been involved with a poet's group and various women's clubs in the past. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Bliss (Jack) Holler; mother, Nellie May Holler; husband, Walter Edward Hickory. She is survived by her brother, John Raymond Holler, Springfield, IL; sister-in-law, Ellene Holler, Springfield, IL; son, William (Bill) Hickory; daughter, Mary E. Hickory; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Hickory; grandson, William Brent Hickory; granddaughter, Kalleigh Brianne Hickory, all of Springfield, MO; sisters-in-law, Loretta Bradley of Colorado, Margaret Baird of Florida, Barbara Batchilder of Vermont, Marilyn Richards of New York, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Celebration of Life will be held at 6 pm on Tuesday, October 14, with a visitation following until 8 pm. A graveside service will be at Hazelwood Cemetery on Wednesday, October 15, at 3 pm, with Reverend David Nordyke officiating.
