BETTY EBE Betty Lewis Ebe died on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Westminster Manor, Austin, TX, after a short illness. Her survivors are daughter Nancy, son-in-law Steve Meyer, and grandchildren Jessie and Nick, of Austin, Texas; and son Robert, daughter-in-law Jane, grandchildren Lauren, Todd, and Sarah of Lafayette, California and great grandchild, Riley Bouton. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Harry Ebe, who died in 2003. Betty and her family moved to Springfield, MO. In 1967 from Houston, Texas; she considered herself a Texan, she lived there for most of her early life. She received her B.S. in Education from Eastern Illinois University, her M.A. from Drury College, and her counselling certification from Missouri State. She taught in Roseville, IL, Decatur, IL, and Houston, TX, before moving to Springfield. She taught English and was a counselor at Pershing Junior High in Springfield for 20 years. After retirement, she continued her teaching career by volunteering with the Literacy Council and teaching many adults to read. Betty was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma educational society, Daughter of American Revolution, Ozark Literacy Council, Golden Girls Investment Club, Twin Oaks Ladies Golf Association, Christ Church Unity and many bridge clubs. Betty and Harry loved to travel and made many interesting trips in both the U.S. and overseas. After a winter of ill health and bad weather, Betty moved to Westminster Manor, Austin, Texas in April 2011. She loved being in the active community there and being close to her daughters family. Her last trip was to San Francisco to visit her son and family. Betty will be buried with her husband at Missouri Veteran's Cemetery on Evans Road in Springfield, Missouri.
