A descendent of one of the founding families of Springfield, Betty was the daughter of James Robert Campbell & Pearl Warren Wright Campbell. She was born in Springfield on November 1, 1929 in the Gray Campbell Homestead that is now a historic site within Nathaniel Green Park.
Betty was joined in marriage to Lee Charles Deskin August 19, 1951. They were married for sixty years and had four daughters before Lee's passing in 2011. Together they owned and worked at Deskin Scale Company.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, & her brother Robert Max Campbell. She is survived by four girls, Pam Britain (Steve), Cindy Deskin (Karen), Sherri Harrison Crawford (Mike), and Debbie Phillips (Raymond); five grandchildren Jenni, Kristen, Kayla, Jacob, Josh; twelve great grandchildren; one sister in law Mary Campbell & many nieces, nephews & friends.
Betty was a devoted wife & stay at home mom with a servants heart. Betty's life was centered around caring for her family and being of service to anyone in the need of help. She volunteered at then St. John's hospital as a Pink Lady for thirty five years and was a member of the Opti-Mrs club. A lover of all things flowers she was a member of the Hawthorn Garden Club. She enjoyed being part of the Old Vintage Car Club with Lee & somehow managed to entice him into joining her in square dancing. Together they were avid Lady Bear fans. A devote Christian, Betty was a long time member of South Haven Baptist Church and a recent member of Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church.
Betty's sweet disposition hid a competitive spirit that was brought out while playing cards & board games. To the end she would relish repeatedly beating you in another hand of Uno. She kept her mind & hands busy working jigsaw puzzle after jigsaw puzzle, a passion that she passed down to both her children and grandchildren.
Betty was an adoring grandmother & great grandmother who loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She especially enjoyed watching them participate in their sport and school activities.
Betty loved to travel & was always ready to go at a moments notice. Above all else she loved & enjoyed time spent with friends and family.
