Betty Jane "BJ" Bury, age 93, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away April 2, 2012, in her home, surrounded by her family. She was born in Sterling, Colorado, on June 30, 1918, the daughter of Arlie W. Culver and Mollie Ramsey Culver. She graduated from Beatrice, Nebraska High School and attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska. She married James Kenneth Bury on February 21, 1942, and he preceded her in death on July 23, 1985. BJ worked for many years at Sears, Roebuck & Co. in Springfield as a personnel manager and supervisor of catalog phone sales. She was a long-standing, faithful member of Schweitzer United Methodist Church, where she served as President of the Pioneer Sunday School class and also held various positions within the United Methodist Women. She also participated in various community and charitable organizations. BJ is survived by her children, Saralee Jamieson of Osceola, Mo; Elizabeth and husband Byron Stewart of Springfield; and, James Kevin and wife Evelyn Bury of Springfield. She is also survived by one granddaughter, Molly Elizabeth Stewart, and was preceded in death by another granddaughter, Jennifer Lee Stewart. BJ was known to all as a loving, smiling, and gracious person who devoted her life to her family, her friends, and her church. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm, Thursday, April 5, 2012, in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Springfield. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, April 6, 2012, at Schweitzer United Methodist Church, Springfield. Burial will follow the service in the National Cemetery, Springfield.
