Obituary

Bettie Francis (McCartney) Heitman, born November 12, 1921, died peacefully on July 1, 2017 at home, in her son Terry's arms. She joined the love of her life and favorite dance partner in Heaven, while Frank Sinatra sang Bettie's favorite songs in the background. Bettie was 95 years old and had battled Alzheimer's for nine years. She was born and raised in Kingfisher, OK. She was the daughter of Harry and Minnie McCartney. In 1950, she married Guy Wehner in San Antonio, TX where she worked for the U.S. Army transcribing for a general at the local base. From that marriage came one son, Ronald Joe Wehner, DDS of Rogersville, MO. In 1955, she married her soulmate and dance partner, Maurice Bearn Heitman, always anticipating their first dance in Heaven upon his death. Preceding her in death were her parents Harry and Minnie McCartney, brother Fredrick of Carlsbad, CA, and her husband Maurice. Bettie is survived by her sons Terry Heitman of Springfield, Ronald Wehner of Rogersville; and grandchildren, Wendy Lynn Wehner, Springfield and Robert Cole Wehner of Ozark.

Bettie was a real "people person" and a born salesperson. She loved meeting the needs of her clients and had a great sense of style. With the encouragement of her husband Maurice, she began selling women's shoes in their living room eventually moving into women's clothing. Shortly thereafter she opened a women's dress store, "The Classy Dame" focused on fine ladies' apparel located at the Brentwood Center, Springfield, MO. In line with Bettie's spirited personality, and love of laughter, is one of her favorite stories regarding the "Classy Dame". On a trip to the horse races in Hot Springs, AR with Maurice and their dancing friends from "The Top Of Town", she placed a bet on a horse named "Classy Dame." Her bet paid off, the horse won and the rest is a fantastic history. Bettie believed it was a lucky name and chose it as a good luck omen for her store. History shows it must have been true as the store stayed in business for 37 years.
