Mary Beryl (Ward) Hartley Beryl Hartley, 95, Springfield, Missouri, passed away Monday, April 27, 2009 in St. John's. Beryl was the daughter of Olen and Mary Virginia (Whitley) Ward. She was born on June 11, 1913 near Gilman City, Missouri. She was a member of Brentwood Christian Church of Springfield. Beryl was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, and three sisters. She is survived by many nephews and nieces of both families. Beryl met her husband at Northwest Missouri State University in 1938. They married May 29, 1938. They went to Illinois to teach and coach for 38 years. Beryl taught physical education and math. She retired after teaching 35 years. Beryl kept in touch with many of her former students. While in DeKalb, Illinois, she volunteer at the Kishwaukee Hospital, she loved poetry, did tutoring, was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, loved interior decorating, and kept up with sports, especially basketball and tennis. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Thursday, April 30, 2009 in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel with the Reverend Phil Snider officiating. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery. No visitation is scheduled. Memorial donations may be made in her name to Relay for Life, Team Shelby, Alzheimer's Association, Easter Seals or Brentwood Christian Church.
