Bert Montgomery, age 93 of Springfield, Missouri passed away at 8:55 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2009. He was born February 7, 1916 to Samuel Louis and Rosa Rice Montgomery near Marshfield, Missouri. Bert was united in marriage on April 28, 1940 to Ruth Jane Elmore. She preceded him in death in 2001. DID YOUKNOW BERT? He was a schoolteacher and basketball coach; served in the U.S. Navy; an education and vocational training director at the U.S. Medical Center in Springfield; engineer at KYTV; director of member services for White River Electric in Branson; and a real estate developer. Bert was a 59 year Mason, member of United Lodge # 5, 32nd degree Scottish Right Mason and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He was also active with the Good Samaritan Boys Ranch. Bert's love of life was time spent at the lake. He developed Table Rock Sportsman Club and loved spending time at his cabin, fishing and on his golf cart. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sisters Florence Montgomery, Bertha Black, Louise Minor, Lucille Minor, Bernice Farr; and brother, Louis Montgomery. Bert is survived by a sister, Opal McClure of Marshfield, MO; daughter Myra and husband Larry Houge; son Sam and wife Sharon Montgomery, all of Springfield; grandchildren Scott and Todd Houge, Matt and Sarah Montgomery; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel with the Reverend Jim Downing officiating. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Boys Ranch or a charity of the donor's choice.
