Obituary

Belle Clement Cockrill, of Springfield, MO passed away June 7, 2015, at Quail Creek Nursing Home. She was born August 7, 1922, the daughter of Arthur Minor Clement and Carrie Baker Clement. Belle was a graduate of Greenwood and then attended Southwest Missouri State University. In the early 40's, she was the Woman's Page Editor of the Springfield News-Leader and Press Advertising Manager of Heer's and Turner's department stores. Belle married William C. Cockrill in 1948, who preceded her in death in 1999. A lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church, she was also a member of the Altar Guild, St. Mary's Guild, Good Shepherd Sewing Guild. Belle volunteered at The Next to New Shop and wrote articles for the monthly church newsletter, the Clarion. She was also a member of Contemporary Art of SMMA. Belle is survived by two sons and their wives, Woody and Cathy Cockrill of Springfield and Chris and Mary Cockrill of Colorado Springs, CO; four grandsons, Brian and wife, Laura, of Haymarket, VA, Bill of Miami, FL, Ben of Greeley, CO and Brad of Colorado Springs, CO, and three great-grandchildren, Grace, Aaron and Kaia. Services will be held at Christ Episcopal Church at 2:00 pm Wednesday, June 24, 2015, with the Reverend Kenneth Chumbley officiating. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Episcopal Capital Campaign, 601 E. Walnut St., Springfield, MO 65806.
