Barbara Eleanor (Brown) Snead passed away Sunday, August 23, 2009 in her Springfield home, after a brief illness. She was born March 21, 1926 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to James S. and Mabel A. Brown. Barbara grew up in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and was a registered nurse in Leavenworth, Kansas. On June 18, 1950 she married the love of her life, William H Snead, MD, who preceded her in death on January 10, 2004. Barbara is survived by her four children and their spouses; Sam Snead and Rose Buckner, Sally and Mark Riegert, Steve and Jackie Snead, and Tim and Susan Snead. She is also survived by her younger brothers, Dick and Katie Brown, Bob Brown, David and Linda Brown, and Tom and Mary Brown as well as her grandchildren; Becky Snead, Abby Mathis, Rod Buckner, Rosalyn Buckner, Elizabeth Sage, Kathleen Nehring, Nichole Baker, Will Snead, Jennifer Pohlsander, Annie Conner, and Matt Conner. Barbara had eight great grandchildren. She leaves behind her little Yorkshire terrier "Gordon" who has been her faithful companion for the past 4 years. Barbara was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Susan Elizabeth Snead and her sister-in-law, Clara Brown. A memorial mass will be celebrated Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Springfield, Missouri at 2:00 P.M. Visitation will be held at the church at 1:00 PM immediately preceding the mass. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Hospice or the charity of the donor's choice. Barbara was a woman of great faith and spirituality and a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Parish. Family was the center of her life. Her home was filled with love and laughter and always open to family and friends. Barbara often spoke with gratitude and amazement of her long, satisfying and wonderful life.
