Barbara J. Pittman

Barbara Pittman, age 89, was born in Foster Missouri March 10, 1933, and died June 23, 2022 in Springfield, Missouri. She lived in Rich Hill, Missouri until 1946 when her family moved to West Plains, Missouri. Following graduation from West Plains High School she attended Burge School of Nursing (now Cox College) and Drury University where she received her RN and BSN degrees. Barbara's final job as a nurse was with the Visiting Nurse Association, from where she retired after 22 years of service.

In 1955, Barbara married Harry Eugene (Gene) Pittman, and to this union two children were born: Lisa Jean Mynatt and Lawrence E. (Larry) Pittman.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Dr. Rollin and Ruth Smith, her brothers Rollin H. (Smitty) Smith, and the Rev. Robert J. Smith.

She is survived by her husband Gene, her daughter Lisa (Mike) Mynatt and her son Larry (Kathy), five grandchildren: Ryan Mynatt (Dina Ali), Abby Bailey (Jeremy), Mallory Pittman-Cotner (Derick), Zachary Pittman, and Zachary Getty (Allison); two great-grandchildren, Aiden Bailey and Rose Getty, and her sister Marilyn Ruth Smith.

Barbara loved to read and do handiwork, knitting baby blankets for each of her grandchildren as they approached parenthood. She enjoyed volunteer work at the Springfield Public Library.

A memorial service will be held Friday July 1 st , 2022 at 11 AM in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Private graveside services will follow at the Springfield Veteran's Cemetary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Friends of the Library or to Cox College in Barbara's honor. Please send your gifts to CoxHealth Foundation, 3525 S.
