IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara Joan
Gasaway
August 14, 1941 – August 2, 2023
Barbara Joan Duggins Gasaway
Born August 14, 1941 in Springfield, Missouri. Joan transitioned to heaven Wednesday, August 2, 2023.
Joan Duggins graduated from Wichita State University with a Music Degree as a cellist. Joan met Max Gasaway in April 1963, and the two married on June 4, 1964. Their daughter, Suzanne, was born April 1969, and their second daughter, Melissa, was born January 1972.
In 1976 the family moved to Springfield, MO where Joan continued her music teaching career. Joan taught orchestra at Pershing Middle School and Glendale High School, and strings at the elementary schools that fed into Pershing. Joan also taught private cello lessons and had many student teachers over the years.
Joan played in the Springfield Symphony, the Ft Smith Symphony, Second Baptist Orchestra, and several string quartets over the years. She played in numerous other music groups over the years, served as a Springfield Symphony Board Member, and was actively involved with Springfield Youth Symphony. She played the Kenny Rogers show in Branson along with several other Branson shows.
Joan had a deep love of music, and a passion for sharing music with her students of all ages. Joan passed the gift of music to her two daughters and impacted the lives of countless students over many decades.
Joan gave her life to Jesus at the age of seven and demonstrated the love of Jesus by sacrificially serving her family and friends her entire life.
Joan had a lifelong interest in family history/genealogy that led to years of research, travel and gathering of family mementos and information. In retirement, Joan and Max continued their family history research and assembled albums of the many branches of the Gasaway/Duggins family tree.
Joan is survived by her husband, Max Gasaway; daughter Suzanne Kindschy, husband Gaylan, grandchildren Ashlynn, Jordan and Brennan; daughter Melissa Boyd, husband Brandon, grandchildren Ethan and Donovan; brother John Robert Duggins, wife Nancy, nephews Rob (wife Molly, children Alexis, Autumn, Asher, Ava), Christopher (wife Christina), Patrick (wife Claire, son Charlie), and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
There will be an open house Saturday, August 12, 2023 in the Gasaway home at 3849 W. Nell Court, Battlefield, MO 65619.
In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest making a donation to Springfield Youth Symphony or Springfield Symphony.
