IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara Alice
Brown
November 1, 1935 – March 5, 2020
Barbara Alice Brown passed away on March 5, 2020. She was born November 1, 1935 in Slater, MO. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Edith Brown and her son, Bobby S. Brown. She is survived by her husband, Bobby L. Brown of Springfield MO; children, Pamela Brown of Jenks OK, and Bill Brown of Springfield MO; grandchildren, Carson Brown and Jake Brown of Springfield MO; son-in-law, Roy Payton; and her sister, Janice Besadesky of Plano, TX.
Barbara graduated from Lamont High School, Lamont, Missouri. She also attended Missouri University. She met her husband, Bobby Brown, while going to high school in Stoutland, MO. They later married on August, 28 th , 1954 at the First Baptist Church of Sedalia, Missouri.
Barbara lived most of her life in Springfield, MO and enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, oil painting, working on the farm, and spending time with her family and friends. She loved her family and dedicated her life to supporting them in any way she could. She went to many track meets, Mighty Might football, baseball and basketball practices and games. She was even a Girl Scout Leader. She always put her family before herself and made many sacrifices for them. She was a caregiver for her son, Bobby, and her mother for many years, but never complained.
She was a hard worker and very tough. The story goes Barbara, Bobby, and Bill were working one hot summer day in the pasture to get rid of Thistle weeds. Bill could not keep up with them and quit to go to the farmhouse to rest and cool off. Barbara and Bobby just continued on without him.
She had a quiet sense of humor that would sneak up on you. When you would least expect she would say something and take you by total surprise. For example, she told someone she was upset because they wouldn't let her smoke. She has never smoked! Just recently she was talking to a friend who was trying to serenade her. Evidently, Barbara rolled her eyes and said very clearly that she shouldn't sing.
Most of her life Barbara has kept to herself and led a quiet life. However, it has been a pleasure to her family to see her develop new friendships in the last 5 years. Many people have told me they have enjoyed getting to know her and have learned many things from her. She was one of those people that could light up your day with one of her sweet smiles.
Her love for Bobby was so very strong and was there for all to see as they spent many hours sitting together and just holding hands. People would always say they admired their love and support for each other. Barbara's eyes would light up when Bobby walked into the room. Just a few weeks ago, Barbara was sitting with her caregiver and Bobby. Evidently, she turned to the staff and said with a big smile,"He is my honey bunny". You can't help but smile.
She fought long and hard with the hand she was dealt but her strength and strong will was evident all her life. We already miss her. As Bobby always said, "She's a goodie".
