Barbara J. Barnes, 93, of Springfield, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

She graduated from Senior High School (now Central High School) in 1950 and then attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. Soon after, she married Wayne, and the two boarded a Greyhound bus to San Diego, where Wayne was stationed at the Naval base. In 1953, Barbara and Wayne returned to Springfield, where they owned and operated Sunnyland Stages, Barnes Bus Service, and Sunnyland Tours for 37 years.

Barbara was an avid supporter of Drury University and Missouri State University basketball.

She was preceded in death by her father, C. Arch Bay; her mother, Virginia Bay; her son, Wayne Bay Barnes; and her husband, Wayne Barnes.

She is survived by her daughter, Terry Barnes Reynolds; and her grandsons, Bart Tacke (Laura) and Sam Tacke.

Barbara and Wayne traveled the world together and explored much of North America in their motorhome. Barbara's greatest joys included her two grandsons, traveling the world with Wayne, and all things fashion, especially shopping at her favorite store, Harem & Company. She also loved her many pets.

Barbara was an inspiration to the many women whose lives she touched. You will be greatly missed, Memaw.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Hickory Hills Country Club from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2026.  A private family graveside was held at Hazelwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Drury University Women's Basketball or Crosslines – Safe to Sleep.
