Barbara J. Adams, aged 52, died peacefully on October 27, 2014 at home after her courageous battle with cancer. Barb was born March 24, 1962, in Springfield, Missouri the daughter of Phillip E. Fortune and Patricia B. Fortune. Barb thoroughly enjoyed athletics and the outdoors - especially riding her bike and watching the leaves change. She was never one to sit still, she was always trying to do her part. She loved being a nurse and taking care of others and being a mother. Barb graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1980, and MSU in 1985 with a BS in Hotel Restaurant Management, where she was on the dean's list for all four years. She decided that was not enough to get out of life then graduated from St. John's College of Nursing 2006. Barb started her nursing career with St. Johns and ended her career at MCFP. Barb is survived by her son, Eric Adams and daughter, Samantha Adams; sister, Cathy Fortune-Hargrove and her husband Donald Hargrove; niece Chelse' Crossfield and her husband Kody Crossfield; and great- nephew, Kooper Crossfield. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, November 3, 2014 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Her remains will be sent to Colorado to be laid to rest with her parents.
