Obituary

Arnold Wayne Mallonee , 92, passed away December 18, 2016 after a year-long illness at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. Arnold lived independently until September 2015 when an injury prevented him from living alone.

Arnold was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Jean Marie (Pierce) Mallonee. He leaves behind one child, Debra Mallonee Shantz Hart and her husband Bill and their children Benjamin J. Shantz, C. Riley Shantz, Jeffrey (Hollie) Hart and Michael (Angie) Hart. Ben and Riley were so fortunate to be able to spend countless hours with Pa over the last year and will be forever influenced by his sage advice and stories.

Arnold was born February 14, 1924 in Springfield, Missouri to Joel Levi Mallonee and Rose (McDonald) Mallonee. He was one of five children. One sister, Mae Crowell of Houston, Texas and several nieces and nephews (who know him as "Uncle Bugle" and it was not because he could play the bugle, he was a talker), survives him. Arnold grew up in Springfield, Missouri. He served as an army medic in WWII and supported the 101st Airborne Division landing at Normandy Beach on D1. After his military service he returned to Missouri and worked as a machinist. He retired from Lily Tulip in 1987. After retiring from Lily Tulip he began working part time as a courier for Commerce Bank for several years. Arnold volunteered with United Way of the Ozarks and was a 50-year-plus member of numerous fraternal organizations including, Gate of the Temple #422, East Gate York Rite, Scottish Rite and Abou Ben Adhem Shrine.

Arnold will be remembered for his rock solid dependability, strong work ethic and his love of his family and his dogs. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Missouri Veterans Home, Hospice Compassus and Kelsey Patterson for their kind, compassionate and respectful care of Arnold. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Missouri Veterans Home Assistance League or Southwest Missouri Humane Society.
