IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ann
Wente
August 29, 1949 – January 26, 2025
Ann Marie Wente, 75
It is with great sadness that the family of Ann Marie Wente announces her peaceful passing on January 26, 2025. Ann was the beloved wife of Robert "Butch" Wente for 53 years, a devoted mother to Mike Wente, Scott Wente, and Jennifer Smith, and a proud grandmother to Morgan, Miller, Leo, Ella Ann, and Evelyn. She was also a loving big sister to Connie Christensen, Paul Freking, Patty Freking, and Cheryl Lorenzen.
Ann was born on August 29, 1949, in LeMars, Iowa, to Leo and Therese Freking. In 1988, she and Butch moved to Springfield, Missouri, where they continued raising their family.
Every aspect of Ann's life was centered around her deep love for her family and friends. She was a compassionate nurse at Cox South for 30 years, caring for each patient as though they were her own family. After retiring in 2019, she enjoyed traveling to visit loved ones, cherishing time with her grandchildren, and volunteering at Sammy's Window. A devoted member of Immaculate Conception Parish for over 35 years, Ann was also a member of the Heavenly Dusters. Her faith and kindness were unwavering.
Ann had a passion for Nebraska football (Kansas City Chiefs, too!), a love for Ballatore wine, and never went a day without a cup of hot tea or an ice-cold Diet Dr. Pepper. She was always ready for a game of cards, Rummikub, or anything else her grandkids suggested. The beach held a special place in her heart—no matter the weather or location, she was happy so long as she could sit and listen to the soothing sound of the waves. Ann also loved spending time antiquing and hunting for treasures at garage sales with her friends, finding joy in the thrill of the hunt and the stories behind each item.
Visitation will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield, Missouri, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday, February 2. A Celebration of Life reception will follow from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Coyote's Adobe Café.
