Ann Vennyce Clay, 76 of Springfield, peacefully passed away on December 23, 2017. She was born September 2, 1941 to Albertine Clay in St Louis Mo.
Ann started her career at Litton in 1979-2002 she retired after 23 years of employment at Litton. She picked up a new hobby at the casino and bingo hall during her time off. Ann started working for Springfield Public School Nutrition Service in 2004. She retired in 2016 due to illness.
Ann was a longtime member of Deliverance Temple Church. She was a member of Eastern Star, 5-6 club and Queenette Temple #1146.
Ann enjoyed having her family together on Sunday dinners and holidays. Ann always looked forward to getting her java and apple fritter every morning and evening that Sabrina (daughter) and Kristi (granddaughter) would take turns bringing to her. She loved when Carl (grandson) would make her breakfast on the weekend. During the summer time John (son) would bring her favorite drink from Sonic in the afternoon. Ann loved when Doug (grandson) and Lou (granddaughter-in-law) came over to sit on the porch to have conversations. Ann recently had a bingo buddy Ratisha (granddaughter-in-law) who would play every Sunday morning with her. She played at American Legions Post #69 faithfully every weekend. Ann was very proud to be able to see her great grandson PVT Torres, Jorge (Junior) make it through bootcamp and return home December 7, 2017.
Ann is preceded in death by mother Albertine Clay, son Craig Thomas, son-in-law Douglas Shockley Jr, and granddaughter Donnisha Thomas.
Ann leaves to cherish her memory a daughter Sabrina Shockley, two sons John Clay (LaShonda) and Garnell Thomas (Shirley) all of Springfield MO. Fifteen grandchildren Anika Williams, Diana Thomas, Douglas (Lou), Carl (Ratisha), Kristi, Joe, Elizabeth, Raymond, Dale, Terriona, Gary, Veronica, Nevaeh, Tomary and Destiny Shockley. Ann had 31 great-grandchildren and two of them will be born in 2018. She also leaves behind 5 special friends Millie and Tony, Richard and Pat and Rhonda.
Visitation will be Friday, December 29, 2017 from 11-12:00 p.m. at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
