IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ann Sherer
Abbott
August 10, 1926 – December 1, 2022
Ann Abbott, 96, went to be with her Lord and family December 1, 2022, at Foxwood Springs in Raymore, Missouri. Ann was born August 10, 1926, to Harry and Lucille Sherer in Newburg, MO. She lived most of her life in Springfield, graduating from Senior High where she was a Kiltie Twirler and attended SMS. Ann was joined in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Bill Abbott, by his father Rev. H.T. Abbott in 1944.
A woman of strong faith, Ann served Jesus in numerous capacities. An active member of First Baptist Church, she taught Sunday school and was involved in prayer and mission groups. Ann lived out her faith by volunteering for Meals on Wheels and cooking for the needy, ill and shut-ins.
She worked a variety of jobs as a secretary, salesperson and finally as owner/operator (along with Bill) of Plaza Towers Card and Gift Shop.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband Bill of 62 years, her sisters Harriett Hutchens and Jimmie Sue Parker and four nephews and one niece. She is survived by her children, Kerry and Joyce Abbott of Houston, Texas and Pam and David Denny of Lees Summit, Missouri; grandchildren, Ryan Abbott, Lara Abbott and Sydney and Dean Baldwin; great-grandchildren, Quincy and Mack Baldwin and Evelyn Ellefson; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Ann was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was known as a great cook and never met a stranger. She was beautiful inside and out, always having her hair in place and her lipstick on. She was a role model, and we will miss her until we see her again.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 8, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the church, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Private burial will be held at a later date at Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 525 South Ave., Springfield, MO 65806 or Baptist Children's Home, 603 N. Main St., Mt. Vernon, MO, 65712.
