Anita Anne (Wheeler) Henry, 77, of Springfield, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, July 1, 2013. She was born September 11, 1935 in Elkland, Missouri, the daughter of Austin and Esther (Day) Wheeler. Anita graduated from Springfield Senior High in 1953, along with her husband, Denny Henry. Denny and Anita were married June 27, 1954. Together, they raised 5 children, Gus, of Springfield; Lisa Sherman (Jimmy), of Henrietta, MO; Joe (Marilyn) and Nan (K.G. Sprague), all of Jacksonville, FL; and Laura Beth, of Salisbury, MO. They enjoyed five grandchildren, Hank, Kate, Andrew, Spencer and Jeremy; as well as two great-grandchildren, Katy and Lilly Booth. Anita was a valuable employee of Freeman's Men's Clothing for 33 years, serving as bookkeeper and salesperson. She loved baseball and softball and washed many uniforms for the years. Anita was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Frank, Jim, Charley and John, as well as two sisters, Wilma Lea Wheeler and Virginia Ruth (Suzie) Smith. She is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Smith, of Clyde, TX; a brother, Henry (Janice) Wheeler, of Springfield; as well as sisters-in-law, Mary Wheeler, Marcella Wheeler, June Wheeler, and Joyce Patton and a brother-in-law, Preston Henry. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. Anita was loved by her family and by so many others who knew her. She will be greatly missed, but left behind many wonderful memories. Visitation will be held at 2:00 Friday, July 5, 2013 at Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel with the funeral service immediately following at 3:00 P.M. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Elkland, MO. Anita fought a tough battle with lung cancer for the past year with family and her faith in God giving her comfort. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society or "Friends of The Zoo" at Dickerson Park Zoo.
