IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alora Verda
Chace
December 13, 1937 – September 10, 2017
At a Christmas party in 1972, in Memphis, Tennessee, a proper southern woman was introduced to a scrawny Air Force Yankee from Rhode Island. He convinced her to go have coffee with him afterwards and she agreed. Over coffee, he informed her that he was going to marry her and she informed him that he had lost his mind. It turns out that he hadn't lost his mind, because on April 8, 1973, they got married. They were perfectly matched and spent the next 23 years together, until October 17, 1996, when that Yankee was taken from her. For the next 21 years, she found that strength to continue on without him. At 12:40 p.m. on September 10, 2017, she was rejoined with her soulmate.
Alora Verda Chace was born December 13, 1937 in Batesville, Mississippi. She had three brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her son, John D. Chace and daughter-in-law, Rebecca Chace; two grandchildren, Julius and Athena; sister, Gloria Biffle; several nieces and nephews; and many friends and family. Alora was loved by everyone that knew her.
Visitation will be held from to 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the DAV and/or the Ronald McDonald House in her honor.
