IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Allan David
Stone
January 9, 1937 – March 28, 2022
Allan David Stone, 85 of Springfield MO peacefully passed away on Monday, March 28, 2022, following a lengthy battle with Alzheimers. He was born on January 9, 1937, in Joliet, IL to William and Leona (Frieh) Stone.
Allan married Peggy Jean Carter at the First United Methodist Church in Lockport, IL on January 11, 1957. To this union two sons were born. He was a lifelong scholar and professor of Economics, having received his undergraduate degree from Beloit College where he started for the Buccaneers football team. Allan obtained his Master's in Economics and PhD from the University of Oklahoma and taught at Missouri State University for 28 years. He served in the United States Army, was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and an articulate yet open-minded Democrat. Allan enjoyed attending auctions in search of great finds for his Buttercup's antique business and their personal collection. He was classically known for his dry sense of humor, generous support of charities and spent much time outdoors where he delighted in feeding the neighborhood birds and squirrels. Allan liked watching MSU Bears basketball games, was a closet Chicago Cubs fan, and never missed an opportunity to meet his retired professor friends for coffee or lunch, who proudly referred to themselves as "The Donut Boys." Lovingly known as Poppy to his grandsons, he was always up for anything their hearts desired, but especially to make an ice cream run. Allan and Peggy traveled back to Illinois to spend time with family every summer and Christmas holiday.
Allan was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Peggy, his oldest son David Stone, his sister and brother-in-law Gertrude and John Darin, his in-laws William and Mildred Carter, and his sisters-in-law Barbara Carter and Kathleen Carter.
He is survived by his son Richard Stone (wife Wendy); grandsons Nickolas Stone and Drew Stone; brother William Stone (wife Diana); nephews William Carter (wife Jasmine), Robert Darin, Adam Stone, and Noah Stone; nieces Janice Kelm and Nancy Darin; great nephew Jason Kelm; and great-nieces Amanda Brown, Brianna Darin, MaKayla Carter and Mia Carter.
I thank and love you Daddy, for showing me and everyone through your life's journey, the true meaning of selflessness, humbleness, and never-ending love.
