Alice Jane Karchmer, 92 of Springfield, MO passed away peacefully, Sunday July 23, 2011 at home after a short illness. She was born July 27, 1918 Springfield, MO to Hortense and Desmond Roark. Alice Jane attended Greenwood Laboratory School where she graduated in 1936. She attended State Teachers College (now MSU) and was a member of The Merry Go Round Social Club (now Alpha Sigma Alpha). Alice Jane was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Herschel Karchmer who preceded her in death in 1984. She was a homemaker and an accomplished bridge player. Alice Jane was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister Wanda Scott, brother-in-laws, Harold Scott and Ben Chartier, son, David Karchmer, and son-in-law, Melvin Dixson. Alice Jane is survived by daughter, Jennifer Dixson, Springfield, MO; sister, Bobbie Chartier, Ocala, FL; granddaughters, Suzanne Dixson, and Cathy Fredrick and husband, Wayne Fredrick; all of Springfield, MO; and Kary Karchmer; Greeley, CO; great grandchildren, Nathan, Madeline and Anna Fredrick and Avery Adcock all of Springfield, MO; and Mikella and Gracie Karchmer, of Greeley, CO; special friend and caretaker, Elona Bernard. Her dog, Maggie who was her constant companion. She was blessed with wonderful friends and neighbors who gave her much pleasure. Alice enjoyed reading, music, playing bridge and loved to dance. Alice Jane was a true friend with a generous heart and enjoyed life to the fullest! She will be greatly missed by all. Funeral services will be held as a celebration of her life on the day that would have been her 93rd birthday, July 27th, 2011 at 3:30PM in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with no visitation.
