On June 13, 2026, we lost our beloved Albert "Al" Selbee. He was born on February 17, 1942 and lived a long and fulfilling life.

Al is survived by his wife, Mertie Jones; his daughter, Denise Koch and her husband, Marcus Koch; his grandson, Marek Koch and his fiancée, Sydney Kirmse; his daughter-in-law, Amy Selbee and partner Eddie Stivers; his grandchildren, Easton, Ellie Brooke, and Hudson Selbee, and Edward and Mary Parker Stivers; his brother, Ken Selbee and wife Evna Selbee; and his sisters, Rusty Culp and Gina Place.

He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Selbee; his sister Colleen Tanney; his parents, Boyd and Mary Jane Selbee; and his late wife, Anita Selbee.

Al grew up in West Virginia before his family moved to Ohio. He went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force, where he was stationed in Topeka, Kansas. He later moved to Springfield, Missouri, and enjoyed a successful career in sales. In Al’s retirement, he worked for Enterprise Car Sales and enjoyed traveling the world.

If you knew Al, you knew that he loved people. He never met a stranger. Whether he was chatting with fellow passengers on a cruise, waving to children in a restaurant, offering a cold beer to golfers passing by his home, or spending hours on the phone with lifelong friends, Al found joy in every connection.

More than anything, Al loved his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and husband. He lovingly cared for his wife Anita until her passing, and in turn, his wife Mertie cared for him until his own.

Al's warmth, kindness, and generosity touched countless lives. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on June 21, from 1-3 pm at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Honoring Al’s love and care for all children, the family has chosen to have memorials directed to the Children’s Miracle Network, 3525 S. National Ave, Suite 203, Springfield, MO 65807.
