Albert "Al" McBurney, 73 of Ozark, Missouri left to be with our Lord and Savior after a lingering illness at 4:14 a.m. July 21, 2010 in the Manor at Elfindale where he had been a resident since April 29, 2010. He was born October 30, 1936 in Odessa, Missouri to Ethridge and Ada Cava (Fitch) McBurney, who both preceded him in death. He was employed by Gerber Products Company for 37 years. Al married the love of his life, Terri, on March 28, 1981. Together they shared 29 years of love and devotion to each other. He was a member of South Street Christian Church, where he served as Chairman of the Fellowship Department for more than eight years and as an Usher. He belonged to The Gate of the Temple #422 York Rite Masonic Lodge; and Abou Ben Adhem Shrine where he was a member of the Marching Patrol and the White Mustang Units. Al found joy in everything he did and he enjoyed life to the fullest. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved trout fishing, gardening, animals, and most of all, his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Sara Dale Jenkins and husband Les Jenkins, and brothers, Robert Joseph and Donald Fitch McBurney. He is survived by his wife, Terri of the home; three sons, Rob McBurney of Halltown, MO, Russ McBurney of Springfield, MO and Mark Weatherwax and wife Cheryl of Kingwood, TX; a daughter, Sherry Christensen, and husband Jason of Kyle, TX; grandchildren, Brittany McBurney, Shawn and Justin Weatherwax, and Brendan, Kjesten, Zachry, and Athena Christensen; a sister, Doris Tucker and husband Roland of Kansas City, MO; a neice, Patti VanZandt, of Peculiar, MO; a nephew, Terry Jenkins; father-in-law Jess Hollar of Springfield, MO; sister-in-law Debbie Fung and husband Michael of Rogers, Arkansas; and very special friends, Paul and Susie Farr, Sue Bright, Linda Killingsworth, Norm Flippo, and Bob Murdock. The family wishes to thank Dr. Patrick Dopp and Dr. Robert Merritt for their wonderful care of Al. Also, thanks to the entire staff at the Manor at Elfindale for the loving care they provided. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Saturday, July 24, 2010 in South Street Christian Church with the Reverends Janet Given and Carl Radford officiating under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will be held in Hickory Grove Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday in the funeral home with a Masonic Service beginning at 7 p.m . In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Al's memory to the South Street Christian Church Fellowship Department, the Shrine Children's Hospital or to the charity of the donor's choice.
