Alan L. Steffen, age 86, of Springfield, died Wed., March 26, 2013 at Autumn Oaks Caring Center, in Mountain Grove, Missouri. Alan was born February 27, 1927 and raised in the small community of Versailles, Ohio. Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Maude Steffen, and by his only sister, Carol Steffen. Also, preceding Alan in death was his first wife, Ginny. Alan was an entomologist and a retired U.S. Foreign Service Officer, serving 29 years, mostly abroad during this time. He served his country during WWII with the U.S. Army, in 1945-46. Alan had given his heart to the Lord in the Belleville, Illinois, Assemblies of God Church, and continued to attend church in Springfield, as long as his health allowed. He is survived by his wife, Doris, of 23 years; two stepchildren, Judy, husband Joe of Mountain Grove, Missouri and Steve Rable of Red Bud, Illinois; three step-grandchildren, David Eisenhour, wife Lynn, Tim Eisenhour, wife Christina, Amy Bauer, husband John; eight step-great grandchildren, and friends who loved him. A short memorial service will be held in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home on Friday, March 29, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
