IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Adrian Marie
Myers
April 4, 1919 – July 31, 2022
Adrian Baucom Myers, daughter of the late Dr. & Mrs. B. R. Baucom of Kenton, Tennessee, was born April 4, 1919. She spent her early life in Kenton and graduated from high school in 1937. She and her brother, Charles, never ceased to be grateful for having spent their early life in Kenton.
She attended the University of Tennessee at Martin for two years and then transferred to Murray State University where she received a B.S. degree in Chemistry. She then taught for four years in Gibson County (Gibson & Dyer) before accepting a position at Reinhardt College in Waleska, Georgia. While at Reinhardt she was awarded a fellowship to the University of Kentucky Math Department. Here she was a graduate assistant while earning a Master's Degree in Mathematics.
At this time, the decision was made to put the career on hold and return to Kenton to be with her Dad for a time since he had been alone for three years due to the death of her Mother. Immediately on arrival home, she was given a position at Kenton High School which she accepted and remained there for three years.
From there, she went to Jackson Senior High for five years, followed by eighteen years at Illinois State University as Assistant Professor in the Mathematics Department. During this time she took a sabbatical at Florida State University. However, the highlight of her career was being a participant in the National Science Foundation Institute in San Jose, California. Dr. W. H. Myers, head of the Mathematic Department and Director of the Institute, later became her husband. This resulted in early retirement.
She always took an active part in church related activities and she said this was the result of a mother and father who were so devoted to their church responsibilities. She played the piano for Sunday School at age eleven, a role she held until she went to college. Her last active church membership was in Church of the Valley in Santa Clara, California.
After retirement, she and her husband visited many interesting places, not only in the United States, but European countries. She said that one of the most rewarding activities that she and her husband enjoyed was growing and sharing long-stemmed hybrid roses in their very own garden.
After twenty-five years in California and the death of her husband, she came to live at Creekside Retirement Community in Springfield, Missouri to be near her family.
