Obituary

Ada W. Bryan, age 88, passed away September 1, 2011. She was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, to John and Mary Jane Goodman and was married to John Bryan III, on July 20, 1941. She and John lived in the Emporia, Kansas, area for many years. During the past three years, Ada was a resident of the Montclair, Springfield, Missouri. Ada was an elementary education graduate of Emporia State University and was a licensed realtor, but her home was her passion. She thought it was great fun when, in the 1990s, Hallmark's Sarah Plain and Tall trilogy was filmed on the farm that she and John owned. John preceded Ada in death on March 12, 2001. Others who preceded her were her parents and all of her five siblings; Bennie Doyle, Bill Goodman, Dorothy Whitehead, John Goodman and Mary Shaffer. She is survived by sisters-in-law, Lee Goodman and Frances Goodman of Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Jerry Maxfield, Springfield, Missouri; son, John N. Bryan IV, Palm Springs, California; son and daughter-in-law, Tim Bryan and Holly Gash, Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, Shawn Maxfield, Tracy Maxfield, Tatiana Bryan Christensen, Erik Bryan, Trevor Bryan and Meredith Bryan; and four great-grandsons, Andrew, James, Alex and Stokes; and many lovely nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the Montclair staff for providing her a safe and friendly home (Ada especially loved the young people at the Montclair who were so kind to her), the beautiful Montclair residents, and to Ada's wonderful friends in Emporia, Kansas, who cared for her before her moved to Springfield. Graveside services will be held Sunday, September 4, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. in the Alpine Cemetery, Osage County, Kansas, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, or to the Care to Learn Foundation, 411 North Sherman Parkway, Springfield, Missouri 65802.
