IN LOVING MEMORY OF
A. Nadine
Hudgens
August 23, 1928 – February 13, 2023
Alma Nadine Hudgens was born on August 23, 1928, in Phelps County Missouri to her parents, Frank and Ada Boudinot. From that day on, she was known as Nadine. She passed away on February 13 in Bolivar, MO.
Nadine enjoyed her years growing up in Newburg. She was the last surviving member of the Newburg High School Class of 1946 and still referred to her classmates as "those kids." During her high school years, she worked at the drug store with a clear view of the Frisco Railroad depot and the center of activity of the small town. She enjoyed reminiscing about those years, during which nearby Fort Leonard Wood was being developed and that activity continued throughout the years of World War II. Nadine aspired to be a teacher, loved diagraming sentences, but even more she loved the idea of marrying Billy Hudgens when he returned from his service in the U.S. Navy in 1946. Prior to his death in 2005, they celebrated nearly 59 years of marriage.
Throughout her life she was committed to helping others, often cared for young children, as well as others in poor health. Nadine considered caring for others her calling. She served on one of the first advisory boards of the local Head Start, when those programs were introduced in the 1960s. Church work, especially missions outreach, was very important to her. One of her favorite organizations was the Grand Oak Mission in Springfield, where she volunteered. She participated in the local Baptist church activities wherever they lived based on Billy's work with the Frisco Railroad. She was a member of Hamlin Baptist church at the time of her death.
Nadine was preceded in death by her parents, Ada Opal Towell Boudinot and William Frank Boudinot, siblings Bernadine Affolter Woolley, Ronald Affolter, Thomas Boudinot, Ruth Boudinot, and son-in-law Morgan Dale.
Survivors include her sister, Delinda Boudinot Marling of Springfield and her three children -- Billy R. Hudgens Jr. (Ruth) of Springfield, John Hudgens (Karen) of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Debbie Hudgens Dale of Springfield. She is also survived by eight granddaughters -- Joy Hudgens Hoke (Chris) and Janet Hudgens Sobbe (Paul) of Kansas City; Jill Hudgens Ray, Rebekah Dale, and Jennifer Dale Wessley (Chris) of Springfield; Claire Dale of Bolivar; Sarah Hudgens Rasure of Yukon, Oklahoma (Patrick); and Jessica Hudgens Sisemore of Tulsa, Oklahoma (Alex). They were constantly amazed by her antics and love of life. Nadine also welcomed thirteen great grandchildren into the family fold and was visibly filled with abundant joy anytime they were around. Numerous nieces and nephews and their children also survive her and will miss her as an important figure in their lives, along with her family famous sugar cookies.
A service in honor of Nadine's life will be at Gorman-Scharpf in Springfield, Friday, February 17 at 11:00, with visitation at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Mount Olive Cemetery in Phelps County, MO at 2:30 p.m.
